Dudhi Bhoplyacha Halwa

Dudhi Halwa is simple maharashtrian dessert made with botte gourd, Sugar and Milk.

Dudhi halwa is great aftermeal dessert.

Dudhi is one of those vegetables which is available throught the year, so there is not need of special season or occision to make it.

Dudhi halwa is heavily prepared during navaratri fasting or for during any other fasting season not because it is special dessert but also it is high in nutrition and fibre and hence ideal for fasting.

Ingredients :

  • 3 cups of Dudhi/Bottel gourd/lauki
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup of mava
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1/4 tbsp cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp of slices almond and pistachio
  • Method :

  • Firstly Rinse the dudhi,then peel and remove the stalk from it. Cut dudhi into 3-4 inch of equal parts and grate the dudhi. Remove the soft portion and seeds in the middle.

  • Heat a ghee in pan and roast slices nuts to golden brown and keep aside.
  • Add grated dudhi into ghee and saute till the dudhi shrinks slightly and changes colour.
  • Add milk and mava. Mix well.
  • Cook for 8-10 minutes or till milk thickens and dhudhi gets cooked completely.
  • Now Add sugar and mix well.
  • After adding sugar, the mixture will become gooey as the suger melts .Again stir for another 5 minutes or till it thickens.
  • Keep on stirring till the mixture thickens.
  • Add roasted nuts and cardamom powder. Mix well.
  • Halwa is ready. Served hot or chilled.
